About Us


Michael van Buskirk

My health and fitness journey didn’t start until I was in my 30s. I played football, baseball, golf, and rugby as a kid and in college but didn’t know ANYTHING about how to eat in a healthy way or how to work out. I was kind of active but ate so…much…junk.
I worked at a non-profit in South Africa for 5 years and was a Director at a YMCA in California but then the midlife crisis hit. At that point I went back to college and focused on anatomy and physiology and kinesiology. Now I pride myself in having an extensive knowledge base and a large body of experience to help you to bridge the gap between proven, scientific principles and being able to carry out those principles in your own life simply and effectively.
During my 8 years working in health and fitness, I have coached over 1500 people through group classes, personal training, strength and conditioning, and nutrition. In that time I have learned is that getting fit and healthy is very simple, but not easy. I have a No-Frills approach and can help lead you towards the healthy life you are looking for.
I've been married to my wife Heather for 17 years. Dogs, travel,
and fitness take up my free time.

I played sports growing up and thought I was pretty healthy until suddenly I wasn’t. At 20 years old, I had to have my gallbladder removed and that’s what started my journey into health and fitness. After having my two daughters, I felt like I was doomed and would never get back to the old me. I was tired of carrying around the extra weight, so I took action and hired a personal trainer. I knew what to do, but I needed accountability. With her help, I was successful in reaching my goals. This is when I decided I wanted to pay it forward and help others reach their fitness goals.Since then I have worn multiple hats in the fitness world. Over the past 14 years, I’ve taught group classes of various formats, provided 1:1 personal training, worked with small groups (semi-private training), led many 6 week weight loss challenges, and managed multiple weight loss focused gym facilities. While I won’t say I’ve seen it all (since new challenges always appear), I will say I’ve seen A LOT! I truly love helping those that want to be helped. I am very straightforward. I will not tell you what you want to hear, but rather I will tell you what you NEED to hear. If you want to put in the effort and do the work, I will make sure you get there, but it has to be a partnership in order to be sucessful. We will be in this together! Your wins are my wins! Nothing makes me happier than seeing a client make the shift to the healthy side!!I am happily married and have two daughters. My favorite thing to do as a family is travel. I believe it’s super important to make memories, so we love to explore new places and familiar places too.At the end of the day, life is too short to not do the things you love. If that includes eating the donut, eat the donut. Yes, you CAN eat the things you love without feeling guilty AND still make progress towards
your best healthy self!
